Project 7 – Oscillations
How does one shut down the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC)?There are two projects this time, the latter was suggested by Marc. Both use the global 4 degree setup:
- Systematically reduce the salinity restoring north of 50°N, and find out at what level the AMOC is shut down, and how long it takes. Then repeat the same experiment with the winds over the ACC increased by 20%. Does that stabilize the AMOC?
- increase the salinity restoring in the tropical Atlantic (20°S-20°N) and find out at which level the AMOC shuts down, and at which level it reverses direction.
