A Voyage Through Turbulence

Sir Horace Lamb once said “I am an old man now, and when I die and go to Heaven there are two matters on which I hope enlightenment. One is quantum electro-dynamics and the other is turbulence of fluids. About the former, I am really rather optimistic”

The difficulties in quantum field theory were partially resolved by the late 1940s. The introduction of renormalization and the renormalization group, originally to address ultraviolet divergences, played a crucial role in understanding the nature of continuous phase transitions. It appears that the concept of the renormalization group and the intricate structures behind it will continue to help understand turbulence. Lamb seems to have anticipated the key points by linking these two difficult topics in advance
